Rounding of Decimals
Flow chart in rounding of numbers.
Examples:
1. Round 56.2435 to the nearest hundredths
- Identify the digit to be rounded off
4
- Digit at the right side of the identified digit.
3, less than 5
- Drop all the digits to the right side of the identified digit, thus;
56.2400 is the rounded value.
2. Round 50.7365 to the nearest hundredths
- Identify the digit to be rounded off
3
- Digit at the right side of the identified digit.
6, greater than 5. Thus 3 will become 4 and the sum is not 10.
- Drop all the digits to the right side of the identified digit, thus;
50.7400 is the rounded value.
3. Round 188.4983 to the nearest hundredths
- Identify the digit to be rounded off
9
- Digit at the right side of the identified digit.
8, greater than 5. Thus 9 will become 10, since the sum is 10 add 1 to the right side of the rounded number thus 4 become 5.
- Drop all the digits to the right side of the identified digit, thus;
188.5000 is the rounded value.
4. Round 199.9983 to the nearest hundredths
- Identify the digit to be rounded off
9
- Digit at the right side of the identified digit.
9, greater than 5. Thus 9 will become 10, since the sum is 10 add 1 to the right side of the rounded number thus 9 becomes 10. Again since the sum is 10 repeat the process until the sum is not 10.
- Drop all the digits to the right side of the identified digit, thus;
200.0000 is the rounded value.
