    Find the larger root of \(10x^2 -x = 3 \)

    Solution

    • \(10x^2 -x-3 = 0\)

    • a = 10: b = -1: c = -3

    • \(x_1 = \frac{--1+\sqrt{1^2-4(10)(-3)}}{2(10)} = \frac{3}{5}\)

    • \(x_1 = \frac{--1-\sqrt{1^2-4(10)(-3)}}{2(10)} = \frac{-1}{2}\)

    • Thus the larger root is \(\frac{3}{5}\)
