Three circles of radii 3, 4 and 5 inches respectively are tangent to each other externally. Find the angles of the triangle formed by joining the centers.

    Solution:

Three circles tangent to each other

    \( 9^2 = 8^2 + 7^2 -2(8)(7) \cos \theta_3 \)

    \( \theta_3 = 73.40\)

    \( 7^2 = 9^2 + 8^2 -2(8)(9) \cos \theta_2 \)

    \( \theta_2 = 48.19\)

    \( 8^2 = 7^2 + 9^2 -2(7)(9) \cos \theta_1 \)

    \( \theta_1 = 58.41\)
